Why Michael Savage is Still Banned In Britain

I've never looked into what specific reason or reasons far right radio talk show host Michael Savage was banned in the UK. While reading MMFA, I found the possible hateful statements and comments that might have got him in this situation. I'm not afraid to say that I myself signed the petition for the UK to lift the ban on Savage. The reason being I think being banned by a state based on speech is wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think Savage is the most hateful shock jock among the right wing talk show hosts in America. I would still encourage every advertiser to drop him. But here are the comments that might get you banned because the UK is the UK.
From: mediamatters.org
Michael Savage has a bone to pick with Media Matters. Since being banned from the United Kingdom in 2009, Savage has grasped at various straws looking to lay the blame on someone other than himself. Among this list of finger-pointees, which includes Hillary Clinton and former President George W. Bush, sits Media Matters. He's even published a book on the subject of who to blame for this injustice.
Tuesday, Savage received a letter from his lawyer sharing with him that the UK would not be lifting its ban on the host, reportedly "unless he repudiated the statements made on his broadcasts that were deemed a threat to public security." Sure enough, on that evening's broadcast of The Savage Nation, Savage did no such thing and continued to blame Media Matters for the ban, stating that we took him out of context and sent edited clips of his program to the British government. Fox News is NOT the Most Trusted News Source

From http://www.usnews.com/

In a new poll from Boston's Suffolk University, more than a quarter of the nation says Fox is tops when it comes to who they trust the most and O'Reilly is the most believable.
"This poll shows two things: first, the network news have completely lost their brand. Second, the only network with any intensity is Fox News," says Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center. "Bottom line: the more they attack Fox, the stronger it is getting," he adds.
But at the liberal Media Matters, Executive Vice President Ari Rabin-Havt says the public's trust in Fox is disturbing. A regular Fox critic, he says the poll reveals that "Fox News viewers trust the information that Fox gives them." FULL ARTICLE

Poll showed these results for the most trusted news sources
  • Fox News- 28%
  • CNN- 18%
  • NBC- 10%
  • MSNBC- 7%
  • CBS- 6%
  • ABC- 6%
  • Other 43%
What positive does this give Fox News? Absolutly nothing. Fox wins by plurality beacause it's the only far right network it's viewers can go to get what they want to hear. In Jan 2011Public Policy Polling released a poll asking respondents if they trust or distrust a network. Fox came in first for most distrusted. Shep Smith might be what's giving Fox an ounce of credibility.

When poll takers were offered 28 different TV news personalities by Suffolk to decide from on the trust question here were the results of the Top 10. Again plurality doesn't mean anything, it just means you have a significant minority of a devoted following. My favorite news host Anderson Cooper comes in second.
  • O'Reilly- 9%
  • CNN's Anderson Cooper - 6%
  • Mike Huckabee-  4%,
  • Sean Hannity- 4%
  • Wolf Blitzer- 3%
  • Chris Matthews- 3%,
  • NBC newsman Tom Brokaw- 3%
  • CBS anchor Katie Couric- 3%
  • ABC's Diane Sawyer- 3%
I'm not sure what the Media Research Center means by "the more they attack Fox, the stronger they get". I'd like the MRC to stop being cowards and debate Media Matters For America about the credibility of Fox.

Obama's REAL Immigration Record on the Border

Because the Fox noise machine is saying Obama is not securing the border much louder than what the reality is and 64% of  Likely U.S. Voters say the border is not secure, I feel it's important to set the record straight on what Obama has really done about the border. The other reason is because I keep on getting into forum fights with people insisting that a North American Union is coming. What I'm about to discuss would simply cancel out the claim that Obama is trying to create a borderless North American Community. First I have to make one thing clear. Should it be a priority to secure the border? Yes, with the threat of a nuke getting into California and drug trafficking should be a priority to secure the border. In fact that's EXACTLY what Obama has done. I'm not sure what most Americans perception of "secure" is.

Obama Has Increased Man Power on Border
Research Courtesy of Media Matters For America

AZ Republic Border Agent ChartPolitiFact: "[Border Patrol] Manpower Has Roughly Doubled Since 2004, As Obama Said In His Speech At El Paso." PolitiFact rated as "true" Obama's statement that "[t]he Border Patrol has 20,000 agents -- more than twice as many as there were in 2004." [PolitiFact, 5/10/11]

Obama Signed $600 Million Border Security Bill For More Border Patrol Agents And Customs Inspectors. On August 13, 2010, Obama signed a $600 million border security bill to "fund some 1,500 new border patrol agents, customs inspectors and other law enforcement officials along the border, as well as two more unmanned aerial 'drones' to monitor border activities." [Reuters, 8/13/10]

Seizures Of Drugs, Weapons Along Border Have Increased. According to data reported by USA Today, "[w]eapons seizures rose 28% and illicit-currency seizures were up 35% in fiscal 2009 and 2010." [USA Today, 2/9/11]

Deportations Have Increased Under Obama. According to data from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), nearly 100,000 more people were deported by ICE in both 2009 and 2010 than in 2007. [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, accessed 2/14/11]

Deportations Of Convicted Criminals Are At Their Highest Levels. According to AZ Fact Check -- a project of The Arizona Republic, AZCentral.com, 12 News, and Arizona State University -- "ICE has removal numbers immediately available for only the past 10 fiscal years, and according to those figures, the most convicted criminals were indeed removed in fiscal 2010." [AZ Fact Check, 2/9/11]

Illegal Immigration Fell In FY 2010 Due To "Economic Distress" And "Changes In The Level Of Immigration Enforcement." In a study on the national and state trends of the unauthorized immigrant population in the United States, Pew Hispanic Center found that "economic distress" and "changes in the level of immigration enforcement" led to a decrease in the number of undocumented immigrants crossing into the United States. From [Pew Hispanic Center, 2/1/11]

Now is it too much to ask why are we having this conversation about Obama not doing anything about securing the border? Could the border be more secure? Sure, but to say that it's not better than it was the last 8 years is simply ludicrous and at odds with reality.

Reason Why Huckabee Isn't Running in 2012

from mediamatters.org
In a November 2009 interview, Mike Huckabee said that if he ever decided against running for president, there was a big reason: Fox News.
"The reason I wouldn't is because this Fox gig I've got right now, Chris, is really, really wonderful," Huckabee told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace.
"A lot of it depends on how the elections turn out next year and whether Roger Ailes continues to like my show on the weekends," Huckabee later added. "And if all those things factor in, you know, it's less likely than more likely, just because I would have to see that the Republicans would be willing to unite behind me."
Tonight on his Fox News program, roughly a year and a half later, Huckabee announced that he would not seek the GOP nomination for president.
"All the factors say go, but my heart says no," Huckabee said.

General Petraeus is Like a Birther?

At least according to Neocon and Fox News guest Marc Thiessen.
Despite evidence to the contrary the propaganda outlet and it's guests are saying over and over that torture is what led to Bin Laden. Just like them saying Bush deserves credit for killing Bin Laden. In fact he deserves none.
Marc Thiessen. appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday calling critics of enhanced interrogations "the new birthers"

One general included in that class of people Thiseen portrays as is General David Petraeus. Thiseen does acknowledge that Petraeus is against torture and supports closing GITMO. Now that Petreaus will head the CIA Thiseen critiqes the nomination nonsensically.

"Thanks to Obama the CIA is out of the interrogation business, so there is no immediate impact on U.S. interrogation policy (or lack thereof). But that is also the problem. Appointing a CIA director with such restrictive views on interrogation does not bode well for the chances of much-needed improvements in our detention and interrogation policy."- Marc Thiessen.

As Daily Kos points out

When Thiessen says that the Obama administration has no “interrogation policy” what he means is that it doesn’t torture people. For him, the two are basically synonymous.

Fact Checking First 2012 Republican Debate

From: politicalcorrection.org

On May 5, Fox News and the South Carolina Republican Party cosponsored the first debate of the presidential primary season, featuring Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), pizza magnate Herman Cain, former Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN), former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), and former Gov. Gary Johnson (R-NM). The campaign kickoff, however, didn't produce many exciting moments. Aside from the civil libertarian flavor provided by Paul and Johnson, the candidates mostly stuck to Republican talking points on issues like foreign policy, gas prices, and health care costs that have already been debunked.

Why Bush Bush Deserves NO Credit for Bin Laden's Death

From: Nicole Belleat at crooksandliars.com

If what the Bush administration did--waterboarding, rendition, etc.--was effective in gathering information that led to locating Bin Laden, why would they have closed down the Bin Laden unit in 2005? Why would Bush go on record several times saying that he's just wasn't all that concerned about Bin Laden in 2006? For people eager to grab and hold credit for this killing, they didn't seem to have a whole lot of work in that arena for the final years of the Bush administration.

Ron Paul Asked on Legalizing Heroin During Republican Debate

Definitely the most memorable part of the first Republican Presidential debate. Congressman Ron Paul was asked about his position on legalizing drugs. When asked about legalizing drugs such as heroin, Paul  gave a humorous and  important point about how ridiculous our drug laws are.

Media Research Center Refuses Debate With Media Matters For America

Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center, the Republican apologist organization, chickened out at the presence of the MMFA vice president His people were invited to come on the show. And declined because MMFA would appear with them.
They put their explanation simple:
"We don't debate Media Matters"

They sure showed them.

Why not have a debate? Put it on C-SPAN and have the topic be whether or not Fox "News" is Fair and Balanced or even a legitimate news channel. How awesome would that be?

MMFA has plenty of dirt on the Media Research Council they can embarrass them with.
